Sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge

The BayBio Institute, the Southwest Regional Coordinator for the sanofi-aventis BioGENEius Challenge, is pleased to invite submissions from high school students throughout the Southwest Region to participate in the premier biotechnology research competition in the country: the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge.

Students who participate in the Challenge will have opportunities to:

  • meet biotechnology industry executives and scientists
  • participate in the Regional Competition and the annual conference of the California BayBio Association (April 7, 2010 – Burlingame, CA, near San Francisco, CA)
  • participate in the International Finals and attend the premier biotech industry international conference, BIO (May 2-4, 2010 – Chicago, IL)
  • meet students from across the U.S., Canada and Western Australia
  • add the prestigious career-building competition to their resumes and college applications

Students will also have the opportunity to compete for travel grants and significant cash awards:

U.S. State Finalists

  • Two finalists from each state in the region are eligible to receive a $400 travel award and an invitation to compete in the sanofi-aventis Southwest Regional BioGENEius Challenge in April in Northern California.

U.S. Regional Challenge Awards

  • Two finalists from each region (and a chaperone) will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge at the annual BIO Conference in Chicago in May.

International Challenge Awards

Winners at the International BioGENEius Challenge at BIO will receive cash awards.

  • First place winner receives a $7,500 cash award.
  • Second place - $5,000 for second place
  • Third place -$2,500
  • Fourth place - $1000
  • Honorable Mention Award - $500 for each remaining finalist.

Completed applications (attached) are due January 15, 2010. Please ensure that students in your region are able to take advantage of this prestigious competition by disseminating this through your networks, posting on relevant websites, and distributing attached flyers at schools and other relevant places and events. We want to encourage as many students as possible to discover the exciting opportunities that are a part of a career in the life sciences, bolster their academic record, and network with other life science students and professionals.
